Miller Ingenuity recently showcased its award-winning ZoneGuard® Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) System at the TTC Conference and Tour in Pueblo, CO. This live rail safety technology demo highlighted how ZoneGuard helps improve railroad worker safety by providing reliable, real-time alerts to crews in active work zones.
During this live rail safety demonstration at the Transportation Technology Center, attendees experienced the ZoneGuard Portable Kit in action. Two Train Detector Modules (TDMs) were placed within the track bed facing up at the outer limits of the work zone (in this case, near the signal light shown in the video below).
As the train passed over the detector, the TDM recognized it as a train using LiDAR and accelerometer data. The system instantly sent alerts to the wearable devices attached to the crew’s safety vests and to the Train Alert Modules (TAMs) positioned within the work zone.
How ZoneGuard ensures accuracy and reliability:
The TAMs also act as network repeaters, creating a secure mesh network that keeps all devices communicating—even if one goes offline. Combined with our patented multi-sensor technology, ZoneGuard helps prevent false alerts and provides a dependable secondary warning system to enhance track worker protection and reduce the risk of human error.
